I am a class of 2016 Bay High graduate, back from 8 years on the West Coast, here to bring my love of and passion for house plants to my home! I am a strong believer that house plants can benefit anyone and everyone. My goal with Paper Crane is to make that accessible for all, cultivating a space where we can grow together!
I strive to provide friendly customer service, and make sure any and all questions can be answered so you can continue your house plant journey.
About
Hello!
After graduating from Bay High, I headed out to college at the University of California, Santa Cruz. I started as an art major and a business minor, knowing one day I wanted to start my own business. However, I didn’t have a clear picture of what I wanted that business to be. Little did I know, my future love of plants started there! I would take my Econ 101 textbooks and pages and pages of notes to the Arboretum and sit and study for hours, enjoying the greenery and finding peace in the gardens. And, like a lot of people, I had picked up a few little succulents from the grocery store, my first house plants!
The next step on my house plant journey was a large, family-owned nursery in Southern California. In 2019, I took a summer job as a cashier. Throughout my 4 years there, I worked from that cashiering job, into management, and finally finishing my career there as an e-commerce specialist and assistant buyer. I spent my time learning as much as I could, bothering my general manager who sat at the desk next to me with endelss questions to continue learning. Any down time I had I spent in our house plant department trying to get my hands dirty. But the endess hustle of California was making me miss the community feel I had at home in Ohio.
I moved to Washington state in search of that community feel. I picked up my next job of the sole house plant buyer, merchandiser, and caretaker for another family-owned nursery. I was able to get a feel for running a house plant department all by myself, making terrariums and our fan-favorite succulent pumpkins (with the help of the barn cats!) But as I continued to grow their business, I felt that this was what my own future would be. Paper Crane Botanicals was born from a handful of post-it notes written in the cold winters at that nursery.
Finally, ready to make the leap and start my own business, I packed up my cats and moved home to Ohio!
My fur-babies Aries and Gemini!
Paper Crane Botanicals opened in September of 2024, and my dream became real. What started 8 years ago as an inkling in a high school graduate, and turned into a million little notes of hopes and dreams, turned into an actual little brick and mortar store in Avon Lake, Ohio.
